January 2012 - The 12 Miles South Coalition is being reorganized to respond to the Mississippi Development Authority's current plan to proceed with surveying and leasing for drilling in Mississippi waters.
The information you see here is a combination of current information and information from the previous attempt at drilling in 2005. We're updating the website as quickly as possible. The 2005 information is useful since the essential issues remain the same. The concerns about drilling as MDA plans remain the same. Furthermore, the decline in gas prices reduces the incentive for drilling in today's market.

the Gulf closest to the barrier islands have been leased
to an oil and gas company.
Three of the blocks are just
three miles from Horn Island, a federal wilderness, which
